EKV' OPERATION

Before starting the engine the driver inserts his card into the reader of the EKV unit. When starting the engine the system established. On the display of the EKV unit information is shown that is being recorded on the card:

  • card ownership
  • available space on card
  • travelled distance from last emptying

The system is established after starting the engine. The reader checks the authenticity of card, if card is not suitable a sound signal is emitted that works all the time the car engine is running.

GPS module starts searching for satellites. During the search for satellites the display emits the message "Please wait ". When the GPS gives the coordinates, the time and current position (information about beginning of trip) is recorded in the memory and card. During the trip the display shows information about travelled distance, current position or just a kind message such as: "Safe trip" or "We wish you a nice day ". Such an uplifting message has a positive effect on the driver no matter how many times he has seen it.

During the trip the information about travelled route (km, time, route) is recorded on the driver's smart card and memory that is installed in the EKV with the aid of the GPS system. Setting the value of sampling distance is at choice, the card can record more than 2000 km of travelled distances. The frequency of recordings can be increased, which causes a decrease in accuracy of measurement of travelled route.

If the GPS loses the satellite signal during the trip the display flashes a warning "Please wait" that stays visible until the satellites are found again (travelling through gorges, tunnels…). When turning of the car the system automatically records the time and coordinates (information about conclusion of trip).

All information that is recorded on smart cards is also stored in the memory unit. It can record information for 32.000 km or 64.000 km (depending on the size of the memory and setting of sampling distance). The recorded data can be read, saved or deleted with the aid of a portable computer and service card. In the event that the memory unit is completely full (intervals of emptying are too long) new information is recorded over the initial data (cyclical recording).

After travelled route it is necessary to transfer all recorded data into the control system of organisation with the aid of the user's card. An authorised person checks it, stores it appropriately or uses it for the purpose for which it was collected.

The system also enables basic checking of the route distance beside precise control of travelled distance that is recorded in two formats:

  1. As route on the map, which requires entering the map of the whole area into the system.
  2. As relation base where accurate data about travelled relation is gathered in register.

Because of the use of the GPS system each point in space is defined by two variables; latitude and longitude. The program enables naming any number of locations - points, which is an aid when controlling trips. Naming is suitable for all locations where a driver (service person) appears more often ex: home, client X, company outlet.

After transferring all this data the system operator (administrator) deletes the data saved on the smart card. Before reusing it the necessary data about driver and sample distance of recording should be entered on the card. With this the card is prepared for the next use.

For the archive we can save all travelled routes locally on the computer's hard drive or we print them out.
